Filipina Killed in Slovenia, Husband in Custody

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) has strongly condemned the brutal murder of a Filipina, allegedly at the hands of her husband, just days after Christmas.

Marvil Facturan-Kocjančič, 27, was reportedly killed by her Slovenian husband, Mitja Kocjančič, while spending the holidays in the resort town of Bled on December 29, 2024. This was after she had just recently arrived in the country. 

“We, at the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, condole with the family and loved ones of slain Filipina marriage migrant, Marvil Facturan – Kocjančič,” said CFO on their Facebook post. 

“As we offer our thoughts and prayers with Marvil’s family, we also stand in solidarity with them, condemning acts of domestic violence, seeking justice for our kababayan, and honoring the beautiful life she lived,” they added. 

According to Slovenske Novice, Slovenian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, which has shocked the public. 

The suspect, who was believed to have a history of mental health problems, was arrested and brought to a psychiatric hospital. 

Meanwhile, the Filipino community in Germany and Slovenia offered their condolences to the victim’s family. They demand justice for her tragic death. 

The CFO, on the other hand, said that it would continue to advocate for the rights of the Filipinos abroad, and urged those experiencing domestic violence and abuse to reach out to them. 

The CFO is a government-based organization whose clients are not OFWs but Filipino emigrants, permanent residents, marriage migrants, Au Pairs to Europe, and U.S. J-1 visa participants.

On January 15, 2025, the Department of Foreign Affairs also condemned the killing of Marvil Facturan – Kocjančič. They assured the public that the government remains in communication with the victim’s mother. 

They also confirmed that the murder happened after Marvil and her husband had a fight. 

“The Philippine Embassy in Vienna, which covers Slovenia, is working on repatriation of remains using DFA funds,” said the DFA. 

The government emphasized that it is actively working towards “attainment of justice for our kababayan.”
