A WAGE increase? The sound might be music to employees ears but taboo to some employers, but as far as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is concerned, they see nothing wrong with the passage of a wage hike law.
This was noted no less than Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, when asked by lawmakers for the department’s opinion as they decide whether or not to approve a proposed legislation.
“It is part of the Department of Labor and Employment, in particular the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), to provide technical inputs,” Laguesma said.
“We are not against it (wage law). We only give scenarios about that,” he added.
It will be recalled that Speaker Martin Romualdez said the House of Representatives is eyeing the passage of a bill which gives a P200 daily minimum wage hike.
The lawmaker proudly made the announcement after having a meeting between several lawmakers and representatives from various labor groups.
