DOH: Firecracker-related injuries now at 101

by Kiko Cueto

THE Department of Health (DOH) said the number of firecracker-related injuries had exceeded the 100 mark, with days still remaining for the current year.

According to the DOH, the injuries were tallied from December 22 to December 27.

They are significantly higher than the 75 and 32 injuries reported during the same period in 2023 and 2022, respectively.

“Eighty ng kaso (79 percent) ay dulot ng iligal na paputok, partikular ay boga, 5-star at piccolo, kung saan 65 ng kaso (64 percent) ay aktibong gumamit ng paputok,” the DH said.

Presently, the number is at 101.

The health department also said that the 82 injured were aged 19 years old and below.

Some 92 individuals were male.

Due to this the DOH had continued reminding the public to avoid lighting up any type of firecrackers and instead opt for noise-making alternatives like drums and horns to celebrate.
