Heavy rains cause floods in Metro Manila

SEVERAL parts of Quezon City were submerged in floods on Saturday amid heavy rainfall in Metro Manila.

EDSA Camp Aguinaldo was submerged in waist-deep flood as of 12:54 p.m., leaving the area impassable to all types of vehicles, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The MMDA also reported that as of 12:40 p.m, the EDSA-Kamuning northbound and southbound lanes, East Avenue’s westbound lane, and C5 Eastwood’s southbound lane were submerged in gutter-deep floods.

The northbound lane of Balintawak Market road also experienced gutter-deep floods.

Meanwhile, light vehicles are not advised to brave the half-tire deep flood along Araneta Kaliraya northbound.

Half-knee and half-tire floods were also seen along EDSA Main Avenue and G. Araneta corner E. Rodriguez, respectively.

In Manila, the MMDA reported half gutter floods along España-Antipolo and gutter-deep floods along España-Dela Fuente.

Other flooded areas are as follow:

  • C5 Kalayaan southbound (gutter deep)
  • Valler Verde Gate 6 southbound (gutter deep)
  • Ramon Magsaysay Blvd. Altura bridge eastbound (knee deep)
  • EDSA North Avenue southbound (gutter deep)
  • Vicente España eastbound (gutter deep)

Most of these flooded locations are passable to all types of vehicles, but motorists experienced heavy traffic on EDSA.

Two LPAs

The country’s weather bureau reported that it is monitoring two low pressure areas (LPAs), which brought scattered rains in the country on Saturday.

One LPA was spotted 85 kilometers northeast of Infanta, Quezon, while the other one was located 125 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales, according to the 4 a.m. weather forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA said there is a slim chance that these LPAs would develop into tropical cyclones.

However, these could bring scattered rains and thunderstorms in Luzon, Visayas, and the Zamboanga Peninsula, which may cause floods or landslides.

The rest of Mindanao, on the other hand, will experience isolated rains due to thunderstorms.
