Flooding on España Boulevard, Manila (August 31, 2023)
Heavy rains brought by the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) continued to affect Metro Manila and nearby provinces on Friday, according to the state weather bureau PAGASA.
At 8 a.m., PAGASA said the Southwest Monsoon, strengthened by Super Typhoon Saola (formerly Goring) and Severe Tropical Storm Hanna, affects Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Pampanga, and Quezon.
Malacañang suspended government work and classes at all levels in Metro Manila in light of the inclement weather.
Meanwhile, Hanna was located 870 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon at 4 a.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 135 km/h.
It was moving west northwestward at 20 km/h.
Hanna is forecast to move generally west northwestward and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday morning.
