Enteng PH, still expected to bring heavy rain

TROPICAL Storm ‘Enteng’ continues to bring various amounts of rain over the country as it moves northwest across the West Philippine Sea on Tuesday, September 3.

According to the state weather service PAGASA’s 8:00 AM tropical cyclone bulletin, Enteng’s center is predicted to be over the coastal waters of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

Despite being in the northwest near the West Philippine Sea, several regions remain under tropical cyclone wind warnings and will continue to endure moderate to heavy rainfall.

“Furthermore, the enhanced Southwest Monsoon will bring moderate to intense rainfall in other areas of Luzon (especially along the western portions) over the next three days,” said PAGASA in their update.

Signal No. 2 covers Ilocos Norte, the northern portion of Ilocos Sur, Apayao, Abra, the northern and western portions of Kalinga, and the western portion of Mainland Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands.

Meanwhile, Signal No. 1 covers the rest of Ilocos Sur, the northern portion of La Union, the rest of Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and the northern portion of Benguet and Batanes.

Including the rest of Mainland Cagayan, the remaining parts of Babuyan Islands, the northern and western portions of Isabela, and the northern portion of Nueva Vizcaya.

Metro Manila updates

Despite being far from the center of tropical storm Enteng, Metro Manila residents can expect occasional rains and moderate to severe winds throughout the day.

Meanwhile, PAGASA provided an update on the water level of La Mesa Dam, stating that it is still likely to climb due to the continued moderate to heavy rains caused by the southwest monsoon or habagat

As of 8:00 AM, the water level was 79.92 meters, and it will overflow when the dam hits 80.15 meters.

If the water level continues to rise, low-lying areas along the Tullahan River in Quezon City, Valenzuela City, and Malabon City are projected to be impacted. Residents are warned to be aware of the rising water level.

Enteng is forecast to continue traveling northwest throughout the next 24 hours. The tropical storm may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday morning, September 4.

By Saturday, September 7, the storm is expected to intensify into a severe tropical storm, potentially reaching typhoon status by Thursday, September 6.
