DOH warns public amids rising heat index, Metro Manila classes suspended

AS the heat level continues to climb, the Department of Health (DOH) began to warn the public against heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke.

Due to the rising temperature, heat stroke has become one of the most common illnesses in the country. DOH reminded the people to stay hydrated, wear sun protection, and limit outdoor exposure between the time of 10 am to 4 pm.

Yesterday, the state weather bureau’s heat index forecast PAGASA broadcast that at least three areas in the country will experience a heat index under the ‘danger’ range. According to PAGASA, the danger range of heat index is listed from 42 to 51 degrees celsius and the listed areas comes with the location of the following:

  • Science Garden Quezon City – 46°C
  • Clark Airport, Pampanga – 46°C
  • CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija – 45°C

According to PAGASA, the heat index in Metro Manila is expected to reach 46 degrees celsius on March 3 and 4; causing local government units to cancel face-to-face classes.

PAGASA also warned that the heat index in Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, and Olongapo City would reach danger levels.

With the rising heat index in the country, many areas in the country began suspending their classes. Earlier, Manila Mayor Dra. Honey Lacuna made a post suspending the classes (all public and private).
