Drag artist Amadeus Fernando Pagente, or Pura Luka Vega, has been declared persona non grata in Bohol.
In a Facebook post, Vice Governor Dionisio Victor Balite said the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed the resolution on the matter on Tuesday.
”Amadeus Fernando Pagente gained widespread attention due to a video that went viral, depicting [her] dance routine at a bar, wherein in this video, [she] portrayed Jesus of Nazareth while dancing to a remixed version of the prayer ‘Ama Namin,’ thereby causing offense to a significant number of Catholics,” the resolution stated.
”The portrayal of religious figures in a manner that is disrespectful or offensive to the religious sentiments of individuals and communities is not conducive to promoting harmony and mutual respect within our society,” it added.
The local governments of Occidental Mindoro, Dinagat Islands, Cagayan de Oro, Laguna, Cebu City, Manila, General Santos City, Floridablanca in Pampanga, Toboso in Negros Occidental, Nueva Ecija, and Bukidnon had earlier issued the same declaration against Pura Luka Vega.
Pura Luka Vega had insisted that her performance was a form of “art” and said she should not be judged hastily.
