Aftershocks, injuries reported as magnitude 6.3 quake hits Dalupiri Island

SEVERAL aftershocks hit Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan, following a magnitude 6.3 earthquake on Tuesday evening that was felt in parts of northern Luzon.

The epicenter of the tectonic earthquake, which occurred at 7:03 p.m. at a depth of 41 kilometers, was located 22 kilometers northeast of Dalupiri Island.

The reported intensities are as follows:

• Intensity V – Bacarra, Bangui, Burgos, City of Laoag, Pagudpud, Paoay, Pasuquin, and San Nicolas, ILOCOS NORTE
• Intensity IV – Luna, APAYAO; City of Batac, Currimao, and Pinili, ILOCOS NORTE; Claveria, Enrile, Pamplona, Sanchez-Mira, and Santa Praxedes, CAGAYAN
• Intensity III – Bucay, Lacub, Lagayan, and San Juan, ABRA; Banayoyo, Bantay, Burgos, Caoayan, San Emilio, San Esteban, San Ildefonso, San Vicente, Santa Catalina, Santa Cruz, Santiago, Sigay, and City of Vigan, ILOCOS SUR
• Solana, CAGAYAN; Santo Domingo, NUEVA ECIJA
• Intensity II – Dolores, La Paz, Luba, Pidigan, and Tubo, ABRA; Narvacan, Santa, and Santa Maria, ILOCOS SUR; Aparri, CAGAYAN
• Intensity I – San Isidro, ABRA; City of Candon, and Tagudin, ILOCOS SUR; Camalaniugan, Lal-Lo, and Santa Ana, CAGAYAN

Instrumental Intensities:

• Intensity IV – City of Laoag, and Pasuquin, ILOCOS NORTE; Aparri, and Gonzaga, CAGAYAN
• Intensity III – Sinait, and City of Vigan, ILOCOS SUR; Peñablanca, CAGAYAN
• Intensity II – City of Ilagan, ISABELA
• Intensity I – City of Candon, Narvacan, and Tagudin, ILOCOS SUR; Camalaniugan, CAGAYAN; Baler, and Casiguran, AURORA

Meanwhile, at least 99 aftershocks were recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) as of 8 a.m. on Wednesday, with magnitudes ranging from 1.8 to 3.7.

According to the Office of Civil Defense, five people were reportedly hurt, but there was no damage to the infrastructure, and there were no displaced persons.
