THOUSANDS of people were displaced due to the effects of the shear line and low pressure area, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Thursday.
In its latest report, the NDRRMC said a total of 80,358 individuals were displaced, with 40,454 staying in evacuation centers and 39,904 seeking shelter elsewhere.
The total affected population is 721,627, located in Calabarzon, Caraga, and Regions 5, 6, and 8.
At least two people were reported dead, the Office of Civil Defense in Region 8 said on Wednesday.
There were 103 houses damaged by the bad weather, 87 of them partially and 16 totally.
The NDRRMC said assistance worth P29,202,982.6 has been provided to the affected residents.
At a situation briefing in Tacloban City on Thursday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered all government agencies to speed up the relief operations in Northern and Eastern Samar.
Marcos also said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) should ensure that all roads are passable to allow faster distribution of food packs and relief goods to flood victims.
