AT LEAST two people reportedly died because of bad weather in Eastern Visayas, the Office of Civil Defense in Region 8 said Wednesday.
OCD 8 Director Lord Byron Torrecarion told Dobol B TV that they are validating reports that the two individuals were killed by a landslide.
Torrecarion said 11 landslides have been reported in Catarman and Lope de Vega in Northern Samar; Liloan and Bontoc in Southern Leyte; Catbalogan City and Tagapul-an in Samar; Jipapad and Oras in Eastern Samar; and Babatngon, Leyte.
Meanwhile, flood-hit Northern Samar has been placed under a state of calamity, according to Governor Edwin Ongchuan on Tuesday.
Classes in the province on Wednesday were also suspended.
From November 18 to 20, the shear line brought rain over parts of the Bicol Region as well as Western and Eastern Visayas, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
On November 20, a total of 618 mm of rain was recorded in Catarman, Northern Samar, exceeding the monthly average of 450 mm.
