Miss Universe unveils new ‘Force for Good’ crown

by Jericho Zafra

THE new owner of the Miss Universe Organization franchise unveiled on Monday the sapphire and diamond-studded “Force for Good” crown that the pageant’s next queen will wear in January 2023.

The new crown is worth $5.58 million and features 110.83 carats of blue sapphire and 48.24 carats of white diamonds, according to the organization.

Dubai-based luxury brand and Lebanese jeweler Mouawad produced the crown for the new edition of Miss Universe 2022. Mouawad is known for crafting expensive diamond jewelry and is the creator of the famous “Power of Unity” crown worn by Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi.

According to the jewelry brand’s Co-guardian Fred Mouawad, the Miss Universe “Force for Good” crown evokes the Miss Universe Organization’s belief in a “future forged by women who push the limits of what’s possible and advocate for positive change.”

Mouawad describes it as a “work of extraordinary craftsmanship.”

Franchise owner Anne Jakrajutatip, who is also CEO of JKN Global Group Public Company Limited, said the new crown seeks to embody the obstacles and benefits young women face when they campaign for causes they care about.

“The Miss Universe Organization will continue to be a global organization run by women for women with a promise to serve as an inspirational platform that celebrates diverse women, supporting them to realize their ambition and build self-confidence, while evolving the brand over time to be more relevant and appealing to the next generation,” said Jakrajutatip.

The Miss Universe Organization also said it seeks to involve individuals in social inclusion, gender equality, and environmental sustainability efforts under the leadership of its new owner.

The 71st edition of the Miss Universe pageant will take place on January 14, 2023, at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. Reigning Miss Universe Queen Harnaaz Sandhu of India will crown her successor after the event.

Miss Universe Philippines 2022 representative Celeste Cortesi is already in the US ahead of the competition schedule in order to finish the last leg of her training for the pageant.
