Mayday Parade songs to rock out to ahead of its Manila concert

by Izel Abanilla

AMERICAN pop-punk group Mayday Parade is heading back to Manila in October this year, and Filipino fans could just not contain their excitement.

If you’re planning to head to the new Frontier Theater on October 27 along with thousands of fans, make sure to fill your playlist with  Mayday Parade’s classics so that you’ll come to the concert prepared.

Here are some of the band’s most celebrated hits for a rocking Mayday Parade marathon.

  1. I Swear It This Time I Mean It

Off of their Sophomore album, I Swear It This Time I Mean It features a melodious guitar sound complemented by the soft vocals of lead singer Derek Sanders. The tempo starts off slow and builds up as the song progresses. It’s the kind of song you would like to jam to with friends or with a date during a roadside stopover.

  1. Three Cheers for Five Years

Written by drummer Jake Bundrick, Three Cheers for Five Years is a sad song inspired by his experience of finding out that his girlfriend of five years cheated on him. She admitted this on their anniversary.

  1. Just Say You’re Not Into It

If you’re willing to forget about everything and start all over with your love, this is the perfect song to go with it. Just Say You’re Not Into It is about a conflict-ridden relationship where the two parties just grew tired of fighting and are willing to forget everything in order to start fresh.

Emotions pour from the lines “Tonight we forget everything and we stay the night. If I was wrong then I’m sorry. I’ll stop this fight, for the night. And this empty space left in the seat to my right, where you should be, says a lot.”

  1. Terrible Things

The song is one of the most iconic Mayday Parade songs because of its unique message. It is about a father telling his son the love story between himself and the boy’s mother.

A poignant track, it’s perfect for a father and son jam.

  1. One Of Them Will Destroy The Other

With its arresting mix of instrumentals and voice, One Of Them Will Destroy The Other is one screamy song that you can sing when you want to release tension and take a break from sappy, heartfelt numbers.
