Kylie Jenner bashed for lion head dress in Paris fashion: ‘It is fake’

by Athena Yap

REALITY-STAR Kylie Jenner became a head-turner at the Paris Fashion Week on Monday, January 23 as she walked with her life-sized lion head on her velvet Schiaparelli haute couture gown.

Her monumental aura did not sit well with many audiences on social media and gained flak as she was accused of promoting trophy hunting.

Trophy hunting means the hunting of animals to use for vanity and not for food, usually real skin or any part of an animal’s body being used for display. But in Kylie’s case, according to her designer, it was just not from a real lion.

Netizens aired their disgustion on Twitter and said even though the lion was just fake, it should still not be tolerated as it appears to be promoting trophy hunting.

Schiaparelli, Kylie’s designer for the event, posted a reel of Kylie showing the look and wrote in the caption that the gown was made out of “hand sculpted foam, wool and silk faux fur, and hand painted to look as life-like as possible, celebrating the glory of the natural world.”

It also noted that there were no animals that were harmed in making the gown.

Nonprofits Animal rights People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), on the other hand, have expressed their support to Kylie.

The organization aired their two cents worth on Twitter a day after the event and said “@Schiaparelli, @kyliejenner, @naomicampbell, & @theirishayk must extend this creativity to be 100% vegan & exclude sheep shorn bloody for wool & silkworms boiled alive for silk!”

Following the statement of PETA, netizens were unhappy to read about the response of the organization and also criticized its statement.

A verified user on Twitter whose name is Michelle Tam expressed how much she disagrees with the message of PETA about Kylie’s controversial outfit.

Another person from Twitter aired its uncomfortable and dismayed  feeling on the issue.

Some, meanwhile, accused the organization of being paid by Kylie.

Besides Kylie, Schiaparelli also created the look of other runway models who are Naomi Campbell and Shalom Harlow whose outfit also involved animals but just like what the designer did in Kylie’s look, it was not real.

Naomi rampaged to the show wearing a furry black trench coat ensembled with Wolf’s head on her shoulder.

While Shalom walked with a leopard print dress with a head of leopard itself too.
