Wet weekend in many parts of the country

by Leila Salaverria

FRIDAY the 13th and the weekend will be pretty wet in Southern Luzon, Visayas, and parts of Mindanao.

Blame the low pressure area, the northeast monsoon, and the shear line, which will all bring rains in different parts of the country, according to the state weather bureau.

Prepare for possible heavy rainfall warnings.

The low pressure area east of Mindanao has a pretty broad circulation and will affect parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and parts of Mindanao today.

The shear line, which is where the cold northeast monsoon and the warm air from the low pressure area meet, may also bring heavy rains over Eastern Visayas and the Bicol region today.

Luzon weather

Prepare for rains if you’re going out in Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Catanduanes, and Romblon due to the LPA and shear line.

The rains are expected to be moderate to heavy with at times intense, which means prepare for possible flash floods and landslides.

The Camarines provinces, Mimaropa and Quezon province will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms. Flash floods and landslides are also possible.

The cold air from the northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains in Cagayan Valley, Aurora, the rest of Calabarzon, and Metro Manila.

Central Luzon, Ilocos region, and the Cordillera Administrative Region will just have cloudy skies and light rains.

Visayas

It’s going to be rainy in the Visayas provinces today, especially Eastern and Central Visayas as a direct effect of the low pressure area.

These areas should prepare for possible flash floods and landslides and be on the lookout for heavy rainfall warnings.

Mindanao

Zamboanga peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and the Caraga region especially Dinagat Islands and Surigao de Norte will also have rains due to the low pressure area.

These areas should still prepare for possible flashfloods and landslides. But the rains won’t be as heavy as in the past two days.

Bangsamoro, Socckskargen, and the Davao region will have partly cloudy skies. It will be warm at noon, and the localized thunderstorms may return in the afternoon and evening.

Weekend weather

The LPA will continue to bring rains in Southern Luzon and Bicol, Visayas, and Northern Mindanao on Saturday and Sunday.

Metro Manila will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the weekend. There will be light to moderate with at times heavy rains due to the LPA and shear line.

Baguio City will only have light rains over the weekend due to the northeast monsoon.

The Bicol region can expect moderate to heavy with at times intense rains this weekend.

Metro Cebu and the rest of the Visayas can expect cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the LPA and shear line

The LPA will not affect Metro Davao this weekend, but it will experience localized thunderstorms.

The LPA is expected to dissipate by Monday.

Don’t go out to sea in these areas

Rough to very rough seas are expected in the following areas with a gale warning:

  • Eastern coast of Cagayan
  • Isabela
  • Aurora
  • Northern Quezon including Polilio Islands
  • Camarines Norte
