Hot, hot, hot and humid Sunday, Philippines!

by Malou Talosig-Bartolome

A blessed Sunday to all. Most of the Philippines will continue to experience hot and humid weather today.

Pagasa state weather specialist Benison Estareja said the easterlies, or the wind from the Pacific Ocean, is bringing the hot and sticky-to-skin sweaty feeling today.

So if you are out with your families and friends, don’t forget to bring your tumbler bottle, today.

Hot, hot, hot weather

Residents of Davao City and Zamboanga may experience a high of 33 degrees Celsius.

But the heat index, or “what-it-feels-like” temperature, may go up as high as 36-37 degrees.

Metro Manila residents may have woken up to to a slightly cooler weather of 22 degrees Celsius today. But brace yourself for a hot, hot, humid weather with much as 33 degrees Celsius.

If you have the means, just chill to either Baguio and Tagaytay. Coolest temperature in Baguio is 16 degrees Celsius, and the hottest is just 25 degrees. Tagaytay’s lowest temperature is 20 degrees Celcius and highest is 30 degrees.

Localized thunderstorms

Localized thunderstorms may be felt in southern Palawan in the morning and Mindanao due to the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

Eastern portions of the country, especially in the Bicol, Quezon province, Aurora, eastern Visayas, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi will also have localized thunderstorms.

Northern Mindanao and CARAGA regions may experience rains in the afternoon. Davao region and SOCSARGEN will have localized thunderstorms in late afternoon,

Possible typhoon next week?

Estareja said Pagasa is monitoring a “cloud cluster” forming east of Visayas.

Bicol, Eastern and Central Visayas might experience rains tomorrow if the cloud cluster continues to move towards the Philippine mainland.

Pagasa is also monitoring a low pressure area in the Pacific Ocean, around 2,200 kilometers away south of Mindanao.

The LPA may continue to move towards the Philippines and cause rains in Mindanao area from Wednesday until Thursday.

“Hindi natin inaalis na posible maging bagyo itong low pressure area habang lumalapit sa ating kalupaan at patuloy na tumatawid sa mataas na moisture ng ating karagatan. Kaya’t patuloy na ating minomonitor ang dalawang weather disturbances na ito,” Estareja said.
