Grammy winner Pharrell Williams is Louis Vuitton’s new creative director

by Ron Poblete

Multi-awarded singer and producer Pharrell Williams, 49, is now the men’s creative director of Louis Viutton, the famous fashion brand announced on Wednesday.

“Louis Vuitton is delighted to welcome Pharrell Williams as its new Men’s Creative Director. His first collection for Louis Vuitton will be revealed next June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris,” Louis Vuitton announced on Instagram.

This came after its previous director, Virgil Abloh, 41, passed away after a long bout with cancer.

The luxury brand praised Williams’ creativity and work in art and fashion, describing him as a “cultural global icon.”

“The way in which he breaks boundaries across the various worlds he explores, aligns with Louis Vuitton’s status as a Cultural Maison, reinforcing its values of innovation, pioneer spirit, and entrepreneurship,” it said.

Its relationship with the singer goes back almost two decades.

With Williams at the helm, Louis Vuitton’s Chairman and CEO Pietro Beccari said he expects the brand to head to a new, exciting phase.

“I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter,” Beccari said.

A music and fashion icon

Apart from winning 13 Grammys and producing for artists Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z and Britney Spears, Williams has also collaborated with Chanel and Adidas in the past and appeared in movies and TV as well.

Williams has invested in several startups, including music streaming service Tidal and food technology company Impossible Foods. He also founded the media company I am OTHER, which produces music, films, and other content.

Williams is involved in several charitable organizations, including From One Hand To AnOTHER, which provides educational programs for underprivileged children. He has also worked with the United Nations Foundation on the International Day of Happiness.
