FILIPINO musician Zild unveils the second single, “Lia,” from his upcoming August album, “Superpower.”
According to the singer-songwriter, the new track is an acoustic song reminiscing “the simple love songs of the 1990s and 2000s.“
“It narrates the real stories while avoiding being too flowery,” he added.
The track tells a simple love story as observed in any Filipino ‘harana’ song—from being infatuated with someone to realizing the deepening of your feelings to finally surrendering yourself to the object of your affection.
Zild recounted that he was inspired to write the song after watching a Netflix show.
“I wrote the song after watching a Netflix show and I finished it quickly. The next day, I recorded the demo, and what you hear now mostly came from the demo.”
The 90s-inspired love song was also influenced by the sound of OPM icons Eraserheads and Rivermaya, responsible for many classic songs in the OPM scene.
“I wanted to write a song similar to those classics, one that is easy to listen to,” Zild said.
As part of his upcoming fourth album, Superpower, Zild shared that the new single follows the theme of simplicity and sincerity with the use of “day-to-day language” in the lyrics, the same technique Zild employed in “Segurista.”
“It cuts all the BS, telling things straight to the point, while not losing the images you see in your head whenever you listen to songs,” he said.
“Superpower” album is set to be released on August 9, while the music video for “Lia” is expected to be released soon.
