P-POP groups have been unstoppable in showcasing Original Pinoy Music (OPM) on the global stage, garnering more attention and recognition.
The most recent triumph for the P-pop scene is the awards won by P-pop groups SB19, BINI, and BGYO at the Brazil-based BreakTudo Awards 2024.
BINI, also known as the nation’s girl group, clinched a total of two awards from the award-giving body.
The eight-member girl group–composed of Jhoanna, Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, and Sheena–bested K-pop girl groups BABYMONSTER and KISS OF LIFE, Chappell Roan, Djo, Henry Moodie, Shaboozey, and Benson Boone for the International Breakthrough Artist award.
They also took home the International Music Video award for their recent single “Cherry On Top.” Released in July 2024, “Cherry On Top,” is a summer anthem describing how special an individual can be.
Meanwhile, the two boy groups bagged one award each, with SB19 taking home the Best International Male Group award and BGYO with the Song By New International Artist for their single “Patintero.”
SB19, also known as the P-pop Kings, was up against K-pop groups SEVENTEEN, Stray Kids, TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) and RIIZE, BE:FIRST, Big Time Rush, and 5SOS.
BGYO’s “Patintero,” on the other hand, competed against P-pop girl group G22’s “I Hate Boys,” Savannah Clarke’s “Bad Things,” LYKN, JOONG, POND’s “Charm,” 4EVE’s “Hot 2 Hot,” Ethan’s “Like It,” Juanjo Bona’s “Lo Que No Ves De Mí,” and All(H)Ours’ “Shock.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), BINI shared its success with the people behind the hit song “Cherry On Top,” including its composers and producers. The music video of “Cherry On Top” reached one million views three hours after it was released on YouTube.
“This is an inspiration for us to continue to create great music for all of you. We hope to visit Brazil soon,” Mikha said.
BINI will hold the last day of its Grand BINIverse concert on Tuesday, November 19, at the Araneta Coliseum.
BGYO members—composed of Gelo, Akira, JL, Mikki, and Nate—also expressed their gratitude for their new milestone, stressing they were honored to receive the international award for “Patintero.” Released in February 2024, “Patintero” is a reminder that people should enjoy life despite the challenges.
“To our ACEs and the amazing team behind the music, this moment is for you!” the boy group said.
Meanwhile, fans of SB19—also known as A’TIN—congratulated their favorite idols on their victory.
“What a good way to start our morning, A’TIN!” said A’TIN Philippines on X.
This was not the first time BINI and SB19 earned recognition from the Brazil-based awards ceremony. In 2023, SB19 bagged the International Male Group award, while BINI took home the International New Artist Song award for “I Feel Good.”
