“Queen of Tears”’ Park Sung-hoon now hoping for “good role”

IS he Jeon Jae-joon or Yoon Eun-sung? No, he’s Park Sung-hoon! 

FROM ONE name to another, actor Park Sung-hoon exceptionally marked his name in the hit K-drama “Queen of Tears,” opening up about wanting to play “a good role” after the hit drama. 

With “Queen of Tears,” people call him Eun-sung, which motivates him to pursue more projects so he could be remembered as Park Sung-hoon, his name, rather than Yoon Eun-sung or Jeon Jae-joon. 

In “Queen of Tears,” he portrays an elite manipulative character while in the 2022 Netflix hit series, “The Glory,” as Jeon Jae-joon, he is a psychopath with abilities and wealth. 

Hearing his played names made him laugh, thinking of what role he would pursue next and what would be the name he will be called this time. 

He even considered using a stage name since he believed that his own name is too common. But what makes Park Sung-hoon different is how he aims to be the most famous person among all the Park Sung-hoons that everyone knows. 

He said he used to search the name “Park Sung-hoon,” and now, he is now on the top of the list and seemed to be the most famous Park Sung-hoon. 

“There are about 65 people when you search for Park Sung-hoon on the Internet, but now I’m the first one to come up. It seems like I’ve become the most famous Park Sung-hoon, so now I need to set a goal to spread the name Park Sung-hoon even wider,” he said in the K-Vibe interview.

Park Sung-hoon also explained wanting to work in different genres, especially in romantic comedy, hoping to play a “good role.”  

In Park Sung-hoon’s interview in iMBC Entertainment, he said that villain roles were being offered to him. But what he has in his mind is a good role, even the iconic ones like the Joker from “Dark Knight.” 

He even opened whether his villainous roles would impact his public image, especially since viewers end up flooding his Instagram with “hate” comments, some of which included expletives.

“Times have changed. In the past, there were many people who mistakenly thought that playing a villain was an actor’s personality, but these days, people separate them. Rather than being unfair, I try to think that people praise me for my good acting,” he said in a Yahoo interview. 

Park Sung-hoon explained that he tried to show his true self in public to help them perceive him separately from his characters, by filming his own content or in entertainment shows he was invited to. 

In the upcoming season of “Squid Game,” a popular Korean survival thriller series, Park Sung-hoon is expected to play a character different from the roles he used to portray. Its premiere has been scheduled for later this year. 

During his interview with The Korean Times, he expressed how he felt being with veteran actors on the set, “(The series) put together such skilled actors, which made it more fun to work on set, watching their performances and co-acting with them. So I’ve had such a great time… Standing on the set and filming in that tracksuit felt so enthralling.” 

The final episode of “Queen of Tears” streamed on Netflix on April 28, 2024, ending with 24.8%, the highest viewership rating.
