PVL: Creamline’s Ced Domingo, to play overseas

THE Creamline Cool Smashers have released middle blocker Celine Domingo, who sought to play overseas after missing the first game of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) last Sunday.

The volleyball community was stunned on Wednesday when the Creamline Cool Smashers confirmed that Domingo will not be playing in the season-ending competition, but will instead be suiting up for an unnamed international squad.

“We are proud and excited to announce that with great respect and understanding, Creamline management has carefully considered Ceddie’s request to play for a foreign team, and has granted her permission to pursue her dreams abroad,” the company said in a statement.

The Cool Smashers recognize that the loss of the middle blocker will undoubtedly have an impact on the team’s PVL campaign. They did, however, underline their willingness to help their players reach their personal ambitions.

Creamline also permitted elite setter Jia de Guzman to play in the Japan V.League a few months back, if we recall correctly. As a result, when they met the Choco Mucho Flying Titans on the first day of the second All-Filipino Conference, Kyle Negrito was their primary playmaker.

This demonstrates how supportive the club is in allowing their players to pursue other opportunities in their careers. This would raise the level of play in the country by exposing players to a different style of play.

“We understand that opportunities like these do not come often, and we want to ensure that Ceddie has the chance to explore and experience the world of volleyball to its fullest. We’re confident in her abilities and believe that this experience will contribute significantly to her development as a player,” the team said in a statement.

According to sources, Domingo will fly to another country on Monday but has graciously declined to reveal the location as her foreign club has requested that the announcement be made. More information will be released soon by the former PVL Finals MVP and her talent agency, Virtual Playground.

Domingo, a two-time PVL Best Middle Blocker and last year’s Invitational Conference Finals MVP, now joins the ranks of Filipino players in foreign leagues led by De Guzman and Jaja Santiago in Japan, and MJ Phillips and Iris Tolenada in South Korea.
