PVL: Creamline shoots for elims sweep, Cignal vies for semis spot

CREAMLINE Cool Smashers will attempt to maintain their spotless record and be the top team heading to the semifinals when they play Galeries Tower Highrisers in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2nd All-Filipino Conference’s final elimination game this afternoon.

Boasting a perfect record, the Cool Smashers only need to win three four-set matches during the 4 p.m. game at the PhilSports Arena to take the top spot. This would allow them to maintain their point difference advantage over Choco Mucho.

Creamline is favored to defeat Galeries Tower simply because of the team’s star strength, which includes reigning conference MVP Tots Carlos, Jema Galanza, Alyssa Valdez, Michele Gumabao, and a highly capable bench.

The Highrisers, on the other hand, were able to end their nine-game losing streak on Thursday with a thrilling come-from-behind triumph over Gerflor Defenders, 18-25, 24-26, 25-23, 25-18, 15-11.

Meanwhile, the Cignal HD Spikers will spring into action against the luckless Gerflor Defenders at 2 p.m., as they hope to complete the semifinals cast of the PVL All-Filipino Conference.

The HD Spikers swept the Nxled Chameleons, 25-17, 25-14, 25-14 on November 25, improving to 7-3 with 22 points and getting a chance to compete for a semis spot.

A win will not only guarantee the HD Spikers a second straight semifinal participation but will make them the third seed in the semis due to far-better points. The HD Spikers and Crossovers have the same 22 match points.

At 6 p.m., the Petro Gazz Angels and PLDT High Speed Hitters look to break a two-way tie at 6-4 and pray for a miracle to steal the remaining semis seat.
