Clips of a plane crash in Brazil have recently been making rounds on the internet. As per CNN World, a passenger plane was reported to have crashed outside of São Paulo last Friday, August 9th, with 62 passengers on board.
Unfortunately, there were no survivors.
In total, News Sky reports that there were 34 male and 28 female bodies, and most of them have since been moved to the Sao Paulo police morgue to be identified.
The plane had been under the regional airline Voepass, and all passengers had Brazilian documents. It was reported, however, that four of these passengers had dual citizenship.
The vehicle was described as an ATR 72-500, a twin-engine turboprop plane.
It was on its way from Cascavel to Guarulhos, but suddenly lost signal before 1:30 PM, and then started losing altitude only a minute and a half before crashing.
No calls for help were heard from the pilots during the entire flight.
It had dropped 17, 000 feet in the air within just one minute, but the investigation has not yet revealed why this happened.
City officials add that, despite the crash, no one on the ground had gotten hurt.
The plane had crashed, according to Reuters, at the house of one Luiz Agusto De Oliveira. While he, his wife, and their maid had been inside at the time, no one was injured. He explained that the aircraft had exploded in his garage.
Eduardo Busch, the CEO of Voepass, has since explained that the entire crew was competent. Maycon Cristo, the spokesperson of the Sao Paulo fire brigade, also stated that all victims in the crash were seated; none had been ejected.
Cristo added that to identify the bodies, seat assignments, physical characteristics, and belongings were all being looked into.
Two black boxes on the plane, which were used to hold voice recordings as well as data from the flight, are also currently undergoing analysis.
AP News reports that this is the deadliest airline crash since January 2023, wherein a Yeti Airlines plane crashed in Nepal during its landing approach. The cause of the crash was identified as pilot error, and 72 people died on board.
Following the crash, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva would ask for a moment of silence for the victims of the crash at an event he’d been attending.
On Friday evening, he would then declare three days of mourning.
As per Paraná state governor Ratinho Júnior, many of the passengers were doctors who had been attending a seminar.
In an interview, he’d said: “They were people who were used to saving lives, and now they lost theirs in such tragic circumstances. It is a sad day.”
