WHY travel far when you can visit an urban farm nearby?
Located in the middle of the busy area of Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig, an urban farm was established.
Visiting the farm isn’t limited to people buying fresh vegetables as visitors can also plant in the farm.
The best part about this is that everyone can visit the farm free of charge.

How it started
Urban Farmers PH in BGC was set up in March 2022 by
businessman Louie Ocampo Gutierrez.
During the pandemic lockdown, Gutierrez’s business went downhill, resulting into 5,000 of his employees losing their jobs.
While walking outside, Gutierrez saw an empty lot on their street. Upon seeing the space, he immediately thought about planting, with the intention of giving jobs to his employees.
Explaining his plans and intentions for the lot, its owner immediately agreed.
They first started in an exclusive village in the area of Makati until it was introduced to the developers of BGC.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, Guitierrez said that if it weren’t for the pandemic, he wouldn’t have created the urban farm.
And even though the pandemic lockdown had reached its end, Urban Farmers PH is still going strong as people still want to know where their food comes from.
Helping the community
It’s no secret that a lot of people lost their jobs during the pandemic. This was due to the implemented lockdown where people were forbidden to go outdoors to avoid the spread of the virus.
Urban Farmers PH helped many Filipinos get back on their feet by providing them the chance of having to work on the urban farm.
The median age of farmers in the country is 50, and Gutierrez said that in 10 years, they might not be enough farmers in the Philippines. Thus, they also encourage the younger generation to learn farming.
The knowledge of farming is something that one cannot obtain in a matter of days, as this is not easy to learn. Along with its growing community, urban farming is steadily heading on its way to harvest its sweet success.
