MOVE OVER, Bounty Fresh inflatable chicken! There’s a new bird in command.
Located at the Campuestohan Highland Resort in Negros Occidental, Ricardo Tan has brought to life the world’s largest building shaped like a chicken. Tan, also known as “Cano”, is a local businessman behind the chicken that’s now been named “Manok ni Cano Gwapo”.
The chicken stands at 34.931 meters in height, 12.127 in width, and 28.172 in length. In explaining why he did this project, Tan said that he had a vision to make something with a wow factor that would leave a footprint of admiration to the public.
According to the website of Guinness World Records, the conceptualization and planning of the project took six months. Construction began on June 10, 2023, and was completed by September 8, 2024. In total, construction was completed in 456 days.
Under this magnificent bird is a hotel with 15 rooms to stay in – something to keep in mind when planning your next outing with family or friends. Rates for their rooms start at PHP 4, 500 per night.
The meaning behind the rooster
When asked why he chose a rooster in particular, Tan explained that Negros Occidental has a gamefowl industry which helps to keep millions of people in the Philippines employed.
“It looks calm and commanding, imposing and strong which reflects the attitude of our people,” he said, referring to the rooster.
“The rooster can stand against strong winds and can withstand pressure from other roosters, an attitude of Negrense people with resilience to recover quickly from any form of difficulties and hardships in life, one trait that their people have in times of crisis and challenges.”
Now, Tan’s resort is sure to be talked about on a global scale, with the chicken already becoming a landmark.
With this, Tan said: “I’m proud to have put my province and my home country on Guinness World Records.”
He shared that he grew up from a poor upbringing, wherein he had to work as a shoeshine boy to earn a living and go to school.
With what he achieved, he is sure to have made his family, province, and country proud.
