VIEWERS have yet to witness the adventure of the beloved trio Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood in the Sea of Monsters, but they are already off to their next destination.
Author Rick Riordan revealed on his website that the fantasy series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” will return with a third season on the streaming platform Disney+.
“We have been greenlit for season three, even before season two debuts this December!” wrote Riordan.
“We were pretty confident this news was coming eventually, but still—WOW,” he added.
Disney+ also announced on social media that “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is renewed for a third season “as the prophecy foretold.”
The series’ third season will be based on “The Titan’s Curse,” the third installment of Riordan’s hit “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” book series.
In the third novel, Percy (played by Walker Scobell) faces another dangerous quest as he rescues his friend Annabeth (played by Leah Sava Jeffries) and Artemis—the goddess of the hunt, wild animals, wilderness, and childbirth—from Titan Atlas.
Further details about the third season, including its release date and the actor who will play the role of Artemis, are still kept under wraps.
“This third season will be new territory for the screen, bringing fan favorites like Hunters of Artemis and Nico di Angelo to life for the first time,” Riordan said in a press release.
“The Titan’s Curse” has never been adapted into a movie or series. Before the release of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” on Disney+, the first two “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” novels—“The Lightning Thief” and “The Sea of Monsters”—were adapted into films in 2010 and 2013, respectively, starring Logan Lerman as Percy, Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth, and Brandon Jackson as Grover.
On his website, Riordan noted the success of the series adaptation that became the most-watched show on Disney+ in 2024 and one of the top five most-watched original series across all of streaming following its December 2023 premiere.
The first season narrates how Percy discovers that he is the son of Poseidon, known as the god of the sea and considered one of the three most powerful Olympians in Greek mythology. Percy and Grover (played by Aryan Simhadri) enter Camp Half-Blood, a training facility where they meet other demigods like Annabeth, the daughter of the goddess of wisdom named Athena.
Disney+ announced the series’ second season in February 2024, taking the trio to the Sea of Monsters to retrieve the Golden Fleece.
Riordan thanked the cast and crew of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” and viewers who continue to support the show.
“We could not have done it without you. I am eternally grateful, and I’m confident that if you liked season one, you will love what is to come,” the author said.
On X (formerly Twitter), Disney+ congratulated the series’ cast and crew for taking home eight awards from the 3rd Children’s and Family Emmy (CAFE) Awards, including Outstanding Young Teen Series.
