According to a statement posted by his undergraduate alma mater Colegio de San Juan de Letran, the late basketball icon’s wake, a “homecoming” for Lim, will be held until tonight.
“To accommodate more people, the cremated remains of Samboy will stay at the Colegio Chapel until Thursday, December 28, 2023. Viewing starts at 11am until 10pm,” said the post.
Given the Skywalker’s impact as a figure in the rich history of Philippine basketball, his family allowed fans to pay tribute to their idol before his inurnment.
The Lim family opened the first day of his wake to the public on Tuesday at the chapel of Letran, the school that the basketball legend led to a hat-trick of NCAA titles beginning in 1983.
After ending his collegiate career with three consecutive NCAA championships, the Skywalker joined San Miguel in 1986 where he spent his 11-year PBA career.
Lim played a key role in San Miguel’s nine PBA championships including a remarkable Grand Slam in 1989. San Miguel’s No. 9 jersey was retired in recognition of his contributions to the franchise.
He was also named to the PBA’s lists of the 25 Greatest Players and the 40 Greatest Players.
Several PBA stars and other well-known figures from the sport have visited him in the last two days of his wake, most notably Bong Alvarez and Alvin Patrimonio.
A Mass will be held at tonight at 7, the final day for mourning. The inurnment will take place tomorrow, December 29, after a 12nn Mass at the Garden of the Divine Word Columbarium in Quezon City.
