THE 2024 comedy-drama movie “A Real Pain” will soon arrive on Disney+, taking viewers on a journey to Poland through their small screens.
Disney+ announced that “A Real Pain” will be available on its platform starting March 19, Wednesday.
Warning! Spoilers ahead for those who haven’t watched it yet!
Directed and written by Jesse Eisenberg, the film centers on two unlikely cousins, David (played by Eisenberg) and Benji (portrayed by Kieran Culkin), who reunite for a tour to Poland to honor their late grandmother.
They join a tour group composed of a retired married couple, Mark and Diane (portrayed by Daniel Oreskes and Liza Sadovy, respectively), a recent divorcee named Marcia (played by Jennifer Grey), and a survivor of the Rwandan genocide named Eloge (portrayed by Kurt Egyiawan). The tour group is led by James (played by Will Sharpe), a tour guide from Yorkshire.
The adventure, however, is filled with mishaps as David and Benji’s old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history.
Also part of the cast is Ellora Torchia, who gives life to David’s wife Priya.
“A Real Pain” premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in Utah, where it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.
In the recently concluded 97th Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars, Culkin bagged the Best Supporting Actor Award for his chaotic yet charming portrayal of Benji.
This is his first win and nomination in the prestigious award-giving body.
The 42-year-old actor bested Yura Borisov of “Anora,” Edward Norton of “A Complete Unknown,” Guy Pearce of “The Brutalist,” and Jeremy Strong of “The Apprentice.”
During his acceptance speech, Culkin thanked his manager, his co-star Eisenberg, his mom, and his wife Jazz Charton. He brought laughter to the audience when he brought up his deal with his wife, who promised to give him two more children if he won an Oscar.
“Jazz, love of my life, ye of little faith. No pressure. I love you,” Culkin said.
The couple has two children together: daughterKinsey and son Wilder.
Aside from the Academy Awards, Culkin was named the Best Supporting Actor at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.
“A Real Pain” also earned three nominations at the event: Best Motion Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Actor for Eisenberg.
Meanwhile, the American Film Institute (AFI) included “A Real Pain” in its Top 10 Movies of 2024 list.
