Next-gen gaming and entertainment coming to the Philippines

CRETA, a web 3.0-based gaming creation platform and studio, announced yesterday their plans to launch newly developed games in the Philippines with hopes of receiving feedback and criticism.

Web 3.0 or Web3 is next-generation developer technology that makes use of decentralization and blockchain technology, letting users to fully own items acquired through online platforms, either as cryptocurrencies or non-fungible tokens (NFTs), thus allowing them to profit from the items. This essentially means that users can play games created with Web3 with the ability to earn.

CRETA’s games will be in the metaverse, a virtual world in which players will be able to interact and present themselves in the form of customizable 3D avatars.

At yesterday’s CRETA Philippine media day in Manila, CRETA’s chief creative officer Ray Nakazoto said they chose the Philippines as their target market for the first-ever beta testing due to the people being “more tolerant to new ideas, platforms, and systems.”

They plan on gradually releasing several games later in the year, with the game-creation tool coming last. This means that the released games will eventually allow players to create and publish their own, essentially allowing the community to expand itself.

“There is massive opportunity for new games… it is continuing to evolve,” said Thomas Vu, producer of “The Sims,” “SimCity,” and Emmy-award winning “League of Legends: Arcane.” Vu partnered with CRETA in support of the company’s intention to develop and produce games.

Nakazoto said that the blockchain technology behind the CRETA metaverse will be backed by “revolutionary high performance parented game technology,” Locus Chain. He assures that through this, the platform will have “unlimited scalability, faster performance, higher security, and minimum e-waste.”

The use of this technology, according to Nakazoto, allows them to eliminate unnecessary data and to no longer need servers for their online games to continue running, thus lessening the costs needed for running services.

CRETA released the names of some of the games to be launched for beta testing, each with their own style and genre: “Kingdom Under Rise” is an RPG fantasy, “Tokyo Wars” is an anime-style video game, and “Dayroot” is a metaverse shooting game.

Vu said that the decentralized or “service” technology applied on the games will be different from social media wherein the users’ data is turned into a product. Instead, the users will have possession of their own data. He added that some of the tests conducted internally ensured that all the information communicated through their platforms stayed secure within the platform.

CRETA explained that they expect difficulties in transitioning players from traditional games to blockchain technology. However, they plan to improve aspects in their platforms according to the results gathered from the beta launch in the Philippines. Afterwards, they expect to expand to India and the Middle East.
