THE love of art is a fundamental aspect of Filipino culture, firmly ingrained in the country’s history, societal ideals, and daily life. However, art in the Philippines goes beyond just aesthetic expression.
It is both a narrative tool and a means of preserving history. Filipino Generation Zs, in particular, have demonstrated a great aptitude for art. It demonstrates their distinct perspectives and creative impulses.
On Friday, June 7, the Intramuros Administration hosted a private viewing of the New Intramuros Tourist Center, located in the heart of the historic walled city of Intramuros. The tourism attraction will soon be open to the public.
The Philippine Government restored the San Ignacio Church, alongside of the Museo de Intramuros, making it more accessible and convenient for all tourists, whether residents or foreigners.
First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, carried out the inspection of the institution on Thursday, June 6.
On Friday, a private viewing was conducted with several well-known celebrities and social media influencers, including Albert “Asian Cutie” Nicolas, Jelai Andres, Bea Racelis, Mon Ivan Mendoza, and many others.
Inside the New Intramuros Tourist Center, there is a wealth of information on the area, as well as opportunities to arrange guided tours and rest while taking in the breathtaking scenery of art on offer.
The tourist center promises a wonderful blend of old and new museums, preserving the historical charm while including modern comforts and twists.
Making it a delightful experience for Gen Zs, as they will have the luxury of traveling back in time and seeing the new museum, which is surely worth seeing.
As we all know, Intramuros is the country’s cultural treasure trove, with notable structures such as Fort Santiago, San Agustin Church, and Manila Cathedral. It’s a destination where you can walk through cobblestone streets, visit museums, and tour ancient churches, all while learning about the city’s rich history and tradition.
Despite this, Intramuros combines history with modern facilities, providing travelers with a diverse range of attractions and activities. You can take guided excursions, eat local food at nearby eateries, and attend cultural activities.
The newly rebuilt Intramuros Tourist Center intends to help visitors learn about and explore this historical landmark. This was proven by the numerous influencers with whom republicasia was able to have a conversation with.
“I had so much fun today knowing that I always go to Intramuros. This is really breathtaking for me kasi I love learning about history, and I love that it has a modern twist which millennials can go to this place and relate more to our history,” said Bea Racelis, an influencer.
Angel Onrubia, an influencer, says that these types of tourism attractions assist to show Gen Zs and younger generations how rich our culture and history are in the Philippines.
“I think itong mga ganitong events, nakakatuwa na nabubuhay ito uli kasi napaka-importante nito sa kultura nating mga Pilipino,” Onrubia said, emphasizing on the importance of this event.
“Kasi yung mga younger generations I think nakakalimutan na nila kung gaano ka-rich yung culture natin, yung mga pinagdaanan ng bawat Pilipino.”
Zachy Castañeda supports the government’s decision to establish this tourist center. For him, tourist attractions like this demonstrate that history is unrepeatable.
“The reason why it’s very important is because this will teach us younger generations that history cannot be repeated anymore. That’s why I’m really glad that the government is actually trying to rebuild our own old artifacts,” he said.
With the public opening just around the corner, let us prepare to rediscover our past, understand our present, and live up to the future that awaits our nation at the New Intramuros Tourist Center.
