Netflix PH to release first-ever zombie film starring Sid Lucero, Beauty Gonzalez

WE have seen how foreign zombie films, like “Train to Busan,” were well-received by Filipino cinephiles. 

But what if we tell you that there is an upcoming zombie movie, this time, featuring Filipino stars, that may have you again on the edge of your seat?

On YouTube, Netflix Philippines dropped the official trailer of its first-ever zombie movie, “Outside.”

The two-minute clip opened with a family—composed of a “cunning” father named Francis (played by Sid Lucero), a “strong-willed” mother named Iris (played by Beauty Gonzalez), and their sons (played by Marco Masa and Aiden Patdu)—traveling to an idyllic farmhouse to escape a zombie outbreak.

This move, however, does not guarantee their safety as they experience strange events during their stay at the farmhouse.

The trailer ended with the text, “You can’t keep out what’s already inside.”

At the Netflix APAC Southeast Asia Showcase in June, filmmaker Carlo Ledesma hinted that “Outside” would not just be about zombies but also a “terrifying psychological thriller,” highlighting the family’s psychological and emotional struggles as they deal with the traumatic zombie outbreak.

“At its core, it’s a film about a family’s survival,” said Ledesma.

The director—known for his horror films “The Tunnel” and “Sunod”—also shared “Outside’s” trailer on his Instagram page, saying that the movie is “a deeply personal project” for him.

Actors Enchong Dee and Joel Torre will also have special participation in Ledesma’s zombie film.

“Outside” will premiere only on Netflix on October 17.

Netizens react

Meanwhile, many internet users praised the film’s trailer, with some expressing their excitement for “Outside.”

“A high-quality apocalyptic Philippine Film?!! And the actors?? Sign me up!” one netizen commented.

“Now this is what I’m talking about! Quality movie in the Philippines. Man, finally got it right this time. Just hoping the movie to be good as well,” another internet user said.

On the other hand, several netizens commended Lucero for his exceptional acting in this movie genre.

“Basta thriller, suspense, horror, maasahan talaga ‘yan si Sid,” said an internet user.

“Seated! Sid Lucero?!” another netizen added. “This is going to be next-level, knowing how insanely talented he is.”

‘Little love letter’

On Instagram, Gonzalez described “Outside” as their “little love letter” to the island of Negros, Philippine cinema, and the “whole wide world of zombie and horror film fanatics.”

“I hope this film makes you proud, keep[s] you disturbed, entertained, and at the edge of your seats from beginning to end,” said the 33-year-old actress.

She also thanked Ledesma for making her part of his film, adding that she’s excited for viewers to see “Outside.”

Commenting on her post, Ledesma said he was proud of Gonzalez and could not wait for the world to meet Iris.
