CAPITALISM’S most brutal metaphor is back for the final round.
Netflix has finally dropped the teaser for the third and final season of its global hit series, Squid Game on May 5, 2025.
The final season picks up after Season 2’s shocking cliffhanger. Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), or Player 456, is back in the game—this time with a mission to destroy it.
Still grieving the death of his friend Jung-bae (Player 390), he now faces even deadlier challenges, including the return of the Front Man, who had secretly joined their rebellion disguised as Player 001.
The trailer has fans buzzing with excitement, especially after its eerie opening scene. Pink-suited guards are seen carrying a black box—just like the ones used for fallen players. When it’s opened, Gi-hun appears lifeless inside—but suddenly wakes up, hinting at the intense battles ahead.
The teaser unveils new challenges, including a massive gumball machine that dispenses red and blue balls to determine the players’ fate. An earlier poster also hinted at the return of the iconic Red Light, Green Light game—with a deadly twist, featuring two ominous dolls.
“It’s time to play one last time,” said in the trailer.
Season 3 sees the return of key characters like the Front Man, detective Hwang Jun-ho, and several past players—including Myung-gi (333), Dae-ho (388), Hyun-ju (120), Yong-sik (007), and the pink guard No-eul.
Each returns with their own story and motives, adding more layers to the final season’s high-stakes drama.
Since its debut in September 2021, Squid Game quickly became a cultural phenomenon, captivating audiences worldwide with its gripping survival drama.
It became Netflix’s most-watched series, with 1.65 billion hours viewed in just 28 days. Its success isn’t just in the numbers; the show sparked conversations around social inequality, the human condition, and the deadly consequences of capitalism.
The series has also earned critical acclaim, including multiple Emmy Awards. In 2022, it made history as the first non-English language series to win Outstanding Drama Series, while Lee Jung-jae’s performance earned him the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor.
The final season will premiere on June 27, 2025 on Netflix.
