Mocha Mousse is Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2025

ENTHUSIASTS of earth tones color palette would definitely love Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2025.

The Pantone Color Institute announced on Thursday that it has chosen Mocha Mousse, or PANTONE 17-1230, as its Color of the Year for 2025. It described Mocha Mousse as a “warming rich brown hue” that brings “sensorial warmth” similar to that of cacao, chocolate, and coffee.

The global authority on color added that Mocha Mousse is characterized by its “organic nature,” which “honors and embraces the sustenance of our physical environment.”

“Imbued with authenticity PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse finds harmony and balance between the demands of modernity and the timeless beauty of artful creation,” Pantone said.

In choosing the Pantone Color of the Year 2025, Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, said they look to “a mellow brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial and comforting warmth extends further into our desire for comfort, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others.”

Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone’s executive director, said Mocha Mousse “expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence.”

“Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace aspiration and luxe,” she said.

For 2024, Pantone picked Peach Fuzz, or PANTONE 13-1023, as its Color of the Year. It is described as a “heartfelt peach hue” that brings the feeling of “kindness and tenderness.”

About Pantone Color of the Year

The Pantone Color of the Year began in 1999, with the goal to enlighten people about how stories happening in the global culture could be “expressed and reflected through the language of color,” said Pressman in a December 2023 article.

According to her, choosing the Pantone Color of the Year is not just based on a trend in a certain country or sector of design but a color that “resonates” with people around the globe and “reflects” their needs.

“The Pantone Color of the Year is reflective of a lifestyle trend,” the executive said. “We want to ensure that the colors we select reflect what is taking place in our global culture at a specific moment in time.”

The Pantone Color of the Year is chosen by the Pantone Color Institute’s team of global color experts who look for new color influences in different parts of the world, including in various fields like entertainment, travel, and fashion to name a few.
