MORE Filipino theater fans were given the chance to see Cameron Mackintosh’s “Miss Saigon” after the musical was extended for another week from its initial closing date.
GMG Productions, the theater company that brought “Hamilton” to the country, announced on Tuesday that it will be extending the Manila run of “Miss Saigon” until May 12, 2024 at the Theater at Solaire “due to the incredible response from the Filipino audiences.” The musical was supposed to end on May 5.
This, however, would be the final extension of the musical, it said.
The Manilla show of “Miss Saigon” is led by 19-year-old Filipino-Australian Abigail Adriano, who bagged the role of Kim, the protagonist in “Miss Saigon.” Louisa Vilinne alternates with Adriano for the role.
They are joined by Nigel Huckle as Chris, Kiara Dario as Gigi, Seann Miley Moore as Engineer, Lewis Francis as John, Sarah Morrison as Ellen, and Laurence Mossman as Thuy, among others.
GMG Productions also shared that five young Filipino theater talents will alternate for the role of Tam, Kim’s son. While the character is male, GMG Productions said that Tam could be portrayed by “any gender.”
These young stars are Andy Bonita, Cassidy Lorenzana, Dylan De Ocampo, Enzo Isaac and Keone Buenaluz.
Based on Giacomo Puccini’s 1904 opera “Madama Butterfly,” the Tony Award-winning musical follows the story of a young Vietnamese woman named Kim who was abandoned by her lover Chris, an American soldier during the Vietnam War in the 1970s.
The stage musical was created by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, who previously worked together for musicals like “Les Misérables,” “Martin Guerre,” “The Pirate Queen,” and “Marguerite.”
“Miss Saigon” had featured numerous Filipino talents abroad including Lea Salonga, Joanna Ampil, Rachelle Ann Go, Aicelle Santos, Jon Jon Briones and Leo Valdez.
The Manila run of the musical will begin on March 23. Tickets are available on the Ticketworld website, with prices ranging from P2,116 to P8,464.
