Marvel drops trailer for new film ‘Thunderbolt’

“NOT super. Not Heroes. Not giving up.” 

That’s Marvel’s caption for the newly released Thunderbolt trailer, which premiered this Monday, February 10, 2025.

It marked yet another expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring the Oscar-nominated actor Sebastian Stan who reprises his role of Bucky Barnes, the anti-hero in the Captain America franchise. 

He will star alongside Blackwidow’s (2021) star, Florence Pugh, who will revisit her character of Yelena Belova, the sister of Natasha Romanoff or Black Widow. 

Thunderbolts follows an unconventional team of misfits, including a disillusioned assassin and other unlikely allies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as they come together for an irreverent and action-packed mission. The film also features the return of familiar faces alongside some intriguing new additions.

The trailer gave viewers a sneak peek into its main antagonist, Sentry, played by Lewis Pullman who gained his power from an experimental serum.

Other characters included were the Red Guardian (David Harbor), John Walker (Wyatt Russel), Taskmaster (Olga Kurlyenko), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). 

The film is directed by Jake Schreier, with the script of Eric Pearson who also wrote Thor: Ragnarok and Black Widow. MCU’s former Black Widow Scarlett Johansson would serve as one of the executive producers. 

Teased in 2021 with the release of Black Widow, Thunderbolt was slated to be shown in 2023 but was delayed due to the year’s Hollywood labor disputes. 

Thunderbolts premieres in theaters on May 2, 2025.
