Maris Racal drops ‘Perpektong Tao’ after cheating controversy with Anthony Jennings

ACTRESS Maris Racal seems to be making a strong comeback after she dropped her latest single, “Perpektong Tao,” a month after the cheating controversy with her on-screen love team, Anthony Jennings and his non-showbiz ex-girlfriend, Jam Villanueva. 

“Writing this song healed me in ways I never thought possible,” Racal said in a Facebook post. 

“It was born from a journey through pain, regret, and the courage to seek forgiveness, a reminder that even in our darkest moments, we can find light. I’m sharing this with the world, hoping it resonates with those who need it most.”

The song was released at midnight of January 17, 2025. It seemed to allude to the singer’s personal experience from the cheating scandal. 

The opening verse of “Perpektong Tao” showcases her reaction after her secrets were revealed and spun out of control. 

“Ganun pag lumabas ang katotohanan / Ang bilis di mo na mapipigilan,” sings Racal. 

She also sang about asking for forgiveness and seeking vindication from what she has done:

“Hanggang ngayo’y umaasa / Sa wakas nitong pagdurusa / Nakaluhod na sa masa / Nilalasap na ang aking karma.”

The song seems to be a reflection of Racal’s cathartic journey of going through the controversy and being publicly crucified for her actions. It serves as the summation of every lesson she had learned along the way, one of which is taking accountability for her committed mistake. 

Racal was able to redirect these negative experiences to her music.  

To recall, Racal took a break from social media after Jam Villanueva, Anthony Jennings’ ex-girlfriend, posted screenshots of Racal and Jenning’s conversations to expose the alleged “third-party” that led to their breakup. 

This caused a stir among netizens who bashed both Racal and Jennings. Both of them issued a public apology that was broadcast on a news platform. 

Racal came back to social media after weeks of hiatus to promote her film, Sunshine, which is part of the International 36th Palm Spring International Film Festival. It was a film directed by Antoinette Jadaone.
