KAPUSO actor Alden Richards and Kapamilya actress Julia Montes are ready to give butterflies and break the hearts of Filipinos in their first-ever movie team-up, Five Breakups and a Romance.
The teaser for the romance film was released on Saturday. It is set to premiere in Philippine theaters on October 18.
The one-minute and 30-second teaser opened with Richards talking about a “weird phenomenon” called “Quantum Entanglement.”
“Once entangled, particles will always have an effect on each other. Kahit gaano sila kalayo sa isa’t-isa,” the actor could be heard speaking as his and Montes’ characters exchanged glances at an event.
The next scenes showed the lead stars spending time with one another until it switched to them drifting away from each other.
“Even if we’re separated, even if we’re on opposite sides of the universe, it’s a very mysterious thing, like love at first sight,” Richards said.
The teaser ended with the pair having a drink at a bar, with Montes telling Richards, “Hindi ako naniniwala.”
Directed by Irene Emma Villamor, the forthcoming movie will explore the complexities of a romantic relationship in today’s era.
Richards will play the role of a happy-go-lucky man named Lance, while Montes will portray a career-driven woman named Justine.
The unexpected team-up of the two celebrities in the movie was first announced in April.
The confirmation was followed by a sneak peek of the film’s teaser, which showed the lead stars’ passionate kissing scene. It was director Antoinette Jadaone who shared the clip on TikTok in August, after she got permission to do so.
Fans became more excited about the movie after Richards and Montes dropped a scene teaser on September 1. The scene showed the two having an argument as Justine accused Lance of having an affair.
In an Instagram post, Montes shared that Five Breakups and a Romance is a film that taught her lessons, especially about love.
“Ito ang pelikulang bumago sa akin, nagturo sa akin na mas lalong maging matapang at nagparealize sa akin importansya ng pagmamahal, pagpapatawad at pagmamahal ng paulit ulit,” the 28-year-old actress said.
Montes also thanked Richards for accompanying her in their first-ever film. Five Break-Ups and a Romance is also the first collaboration between GMA Pictures, Cornerstone Studios, and Richard’s company, MYRIAD Corporation.
“Salamat sa pagkakaibigan, salamat at napakadali ng lahat dahil magkasama tayo sa proyektong ito,” she told the actor.
She also praised Villamor, whom she called a “genius.”
“Maraming salamat sa napakagandang istorya na ibinigay mo sa amin ni Alden. Mahal na mahal kita,” Montes said.
Richards’ last movie was the 2019 film Hello, Love, Goodbye, where he co-starred with actress Kathryn Bernardo. Meanwhile, Montes’ starred in the 2016 family drama film Padre de Familia.
Villamor, on the other hand, is known for her films Meet Me in St. Gallen, On Vodka, Beers, and Regrets, Ulan, Camp Sawi, and Sid & Aya: Not a Love Story, among others.
