Juan Karlos’ ‘Ere’ is inspired by his breakup with Maureen

SINGER-SONGWRITER Juan Karlos Labajo revealed the inspiration behind his hit song “Ere:” it is his breakup with model-beauty queen Maureen Wroblewitz.

The heart-wrenching song, which continues to gain popularity online, carries the pain of a person abandoned by their loved one.

Labajo, popularly known as JK, confirmed his inspiration for “Ere” in an interview with ABS-CBN News and said that the song was indeed all about his breakup.

“Well, I’m not really hiding anything, it’s a super given thing that the whole thing was for a breakup,” the hitmaker said.

He added, “’Ere’ is one of the songs that I made for my relationship that ended.”

Labajo and Wroblewitz confirmed that they were in a relationship in 2019, after they were rumored to be dating back in 2017.

But three years after they went public with their romance, the two celebrities confirmed that they parted ways in their social media posts in June 2022.

‘Ere’s’ success

“Ere” was first released in August 2023 as a single before it became the second song in his latest album “Sad Songs and Bullshit Part 1” in September.

The nine-track album is the first part of Labajo’s love songs that “turned into songs for sadness.” The second part of the album is set to be released in early 2024, Labajo announced.

“Ere” recently made history as the first Filipino song to debut on Spotify’s global chart, as announced by chart data on October 8 on X (formerly Twitter).

It then broke the “all-time single day stream record for a song” on Spotify Philippines when it raked 1.392 million streams that surpassed “Mine (Taylor’s Version)” by 12-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift.

The track also topped the Billboard Philippines song chart for the week on October 16, besting “3D” by BTS member Jungkook and rapper Jack Harlow.

Labajo recently performed “Ere” with Lukas Forchhammer of Danish pop band Lukas Graham during the latter’s concert at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City in October.
