“DARNA” stars Janella Salvador and Jane De Leon delighted fans with their reunion in the music video of the former’s latest single.
Salvador dropped her new song “Hey You” on Friday and unveiled its music video on Saturday, June 22, during her performance at the LoveLaban 2 Everyone Pride Festival at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.
The 26-year-old actress was one of the performers at the star-studded event, alongside several biggest local artists like Vice Ganda, Gloc-9, Juan Karlos Labajo, Ben&Ben, Cup of Joe, and BINI.
During her speech, Salvador said it was an “honor” to celebrate Pride Month with members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community at the Pride festival that aimed to promote equal rights.
“This day is all about love and celebration,” said the “Darna” star. “Gusto ko lang sabihin na kayo yung inspiration ko kaya ako nandito and kayo yung nag-inspire ng vision ko na makapag-bigay ng isang regalo para sa community.”
She dedicated her new song to queer folks, particularly the women-loving-women (WLW) community, saying they all “deserve better.”
The song’s five-minute music video centers on how two schoolmates, played by Salvador and De Leon, fell for one another. Their sapphic love narrative ended with an almost-kiss as they enjoyed a cup of drink.
It also sent a timely message for the celebration of Pride Month: “Love is love, regardless of who it finds.”
The tandem of Salvador and De Leon gained popularity when the two actresses starred in the 2022 television series “Darna.”
Since then, many viewers clamored for the two to reunite in a new project, particularly a girls’ love (GL) series or film. Their calls had been heard as Salvador and De Leon would reunite in a film directed by Jun Robles Lana but the “Valentina” actress previously clarified that it would not be a sapphic movie.
Salvador also shared the music video on her Instagram account, saying, “Happy Pride, mga vadengs! I hope you like my little gift.”
De Leon, on the other hand, posted a few photos of her with Salvador on Instagram.
Several social media users took to the comment section of Salvador’s post to express their appreciation for her Pride Month gift.
“This isn’t just a little gift, para sa’min sobrang laking gift na ‘to,” one netizen commented.
“Thank you for always having our back and for being brave for us!!!” another Instagram user said. “You and Jane are worth the wait. My gay heart is so so so happy!”
For one netizen, the music video “means the world” to them.
“I really appreciate all your (and Jane’s) efforts in showing us your support and love,” they said. “Having you both by our side I guess is more than enough.”
De Leon also commented on Salvador’s post with a rainbow flag and red heart emojis.
“Hey You” is the second song Salvador released this year, following her comeback single “headtone” in March.
