THE Intramuros Administration (IA) has leveled up the tourist experience in Intramuros, allowing visitors to explore the historic “Walled City” with perks.
Thanks to the Intramuros Passport, visitors can have free access to some historical landmarks, collect special stamps, and attend a concert headlined by some big and rising Original Pinoy Music (OPM) artists.
The Intramuros Passport, part of the IA’s initiatives to promote cultural tourism, will be launched on Saturday, April 26, during the first-ever Intramuros Summer Festival. However, members of the media got a first look at the travel document on Wednesday at Centro de Turismo Intramuros.
According to Intramuros Administrator Atty. Joan Padilla, the Intramuros Passport is not just an entry ticket to some key attractions but also “an invitation to embark on a unique trail” in the Walled City.
“This will also allow you to collect stamps from each of our managed sites,” Padilla said. “This will serve as a special token, a special souvenir to remember your experience in Intramuros.”
The Intramuros Passport is priced at P350, but persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, and children under 13 may avail it at P280. Note that each passport is only valid for the named holder and cannot be used by multiple individuals.
Now, where can the Intramuros Passport be used and what are the perks that a holder can enjoy?
Typically, a visitor has to pay an entrance fee of P75 for the regular price when entering the five IA-managed sites in Intramuros: Fort Santiago, Casa Manila Museum, Museo de Intramuros, Baluarte de San Diego, and Centro de Turismo Intramuros.
But with the Intramuros Passport, the holder is entitled to free access and a one-time pass to these landmarks. They will pay for a separate ticket should they revisit these places.
Visitors will also earn a stamp on their Intramuros Passport, just like the normal passport, for every visit to each site.
Once the passport holder collects all the special stamps from the five major sites, they will get one free guided tour inside Intramuros aboard the Tranvia.
The Tranvia is a tour bus inspired by the streetcars or trams that traversed the streets of prewar Manila. It can be rented at P1,200 per hour, P4,000 for four hours, and P8,000 for eight hours.
Once the passport holder completes the stamps, they can refer to the IA’s official social media accounts to book a slot for the free Tranvia tour.
The Intramuros Passport will also give its holder exclusive access to the Sinag Concert, one of the highlights of the inaugural Intramuros Summer Festival.
The Intramuros Summer Festival is part of the IA’s 46th founding anniversary celebration, which aims to promote Filipino culture, creativity, and community spirit. The Sinag Concert will cap off the celebration at Plaza Moriones on Saturday, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The musical event will be headlined by OPM bands Itchyworms and Over October and “Tibok” hitmaker Earl Agustin. Talented students from Intramuros-based schools will also grace the concert as front acts.
Only Intramuros Passport holders can attend the Sinag Concert.
