Influencer posts apology over Olivia Rodrigo concert issue

CONTENT CREATOR Jen Barangan recently received flak for posting a video of herself singing at Olivia Rodrigo’s concert, held at the Philippine Arena last October 6th.

Barangan uploaded a video to her social media that was over a minute long. Here, she had the camera of her phone pointed to herself, with the flash on, recording herself as she sang along to Rodrigo’s song.

Following this, people criticized her for not following “concert etiquette.” Many referred to her actions as their “pet peeve” when attending concerts, as it can be distracting to those trying to watch Rodrigo performing.

“It’s more than a pet peeve,” one user on TikTok commented under her video.

“There are people like me with photosensitivity na pag prolonged exposure sa flash could trigger an anxiety attack or [a] light-triggered seizure. This is not okay.”

Others also raised that the people behind her likely did not consent to being recorded by her, as they could be seen in the background of the video.

Barangan’s apology

Since then, Barangan has uploaded an apology to her social media accounts that read: “To everyone, I’m sorry for my actions. Best, Jen.”

She has also deleted the controversial video.

Meanwhile, many netizens have come to Barangan’s defense, stating that she merely made a mistake, and that she had already apologized, so people should stop attacking her with comments that were below the belt.

“Calling out someone’s bad behavior [does not equal] hating,” an X user responded to this.

“I suggest stop thinking this way so people can be held accountable and learn and not have their actions normalized.”
