APPLE released the iPhone 15 Pro last Wednesday, which immediately gained the interest of many Filipinos. But with its costly price tag, how long would it take for an average-earning Filipino to purchase the newest model?
According to Apple’s website in the Philippines, the price of an iPhone 15 Pro varies depending on its storage.
A unit with 128 gigabytes (GB) of storage costs P70,990; P77,990 for a 256 GB unit; P89,990 for a 512 GB unit; and P101,990 for a one terabyte (TB) unit.
The prices are exclusive of sales tax, which amounts to 12 percent in the country.
In its annual iPhone Index, e-commerce company Picodi Philippines found that a working Filipino with average earnings has to work for at least 79.5 days to buy the cheapest unit of the iPhone 15 Pro.
Citing the data from the cost of living database Numbeo, Picodi Philippines mentioned in its report that the average wage in the country is P18,744.39 monthly.
The estimated 79.5 working days to buy the cheapest iPhone 15 Pro unit would be possible if the earnings were allotted only to the latest iPhone model, the e-commerce firm clarified.
The basic version of Apple’s flagship this year has the same price as last year’s iPhone 14 Pro. However, last year’s iPhone Index required 90.9 working days for an average Filipino to afford the 2022 Apple flagship.
“Compared to last year, the number of man-days required decreased by 11.4 days,” Picodi Philippines said.
But the Philippines still ranked second in the list of 47 countries with the most working days needed to afford the new iPhone. Türkiye topped the list with 123.7 days.
Meanwhile, the 10 countries that could buy the basic iPhone 15 Pro model the fastest were Switzerland (4.2 days), the United States (5.3 days), Australia (6.3 days), Luxembourg (6.5 days), Singapore (6.7 days), the United Arab Emirates (6.8 days), Denmark (7 days), Canada (7.7 days), Norway (8.1 days), and Ireland (8.4 days).
What is new about the iPhone 15 Pro that has the internet abuzz?
One of the key features of the new iPhone unit is the “action button,” which allows users to activate several apps, including the camera, flashlight, and voice memo. It also lets the user create shortcuts on their phone.
The iPhone 15 Pro also has a lightweight titanium design with a textured matte glass back.
The unit now uses the A17 Pro chip, which has a 6-core GPU and up to two times faster Neural Engine for an upgraded mobile gaming experience.
For its camera, the new iPhone featured a 48-megapixel main camera, which promises “super high resolution” photos.
Filmmakers won’t easily be worried about running out of storage as the iPhone 15 Pro allows them to record videos directly to their external drive, according to Apple.
There are no other accessories included in the iPhone box aside from the USB-C charge cable. A USB-C power adapter needs to be purchased.
Aside from the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple also released the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Apple Watch Series 9, and the Apple Watch Ultra 2.
