IN less than a month, two new queens will ascend their thrones on the coronation night of the Binibining Pilipinas 2024 competition.
In its 60th year, the country’s oldest national pageant will select Filipina delegates to compete in international pageants—Miss International and The Miss Globe.
Miss International is one of the four major international beauty competitions, alongside Miss World, Miss Earth, and Miss Universe.
The reigning Binibining Pilipinas International is 23-year-old beauty queen Angelica Lopez from Puerto Princesa, Palawan, while the current Binibining Pilipinas Globe is 26-year-old German-Filipina beauty queen Anna Lakrini from Bataan.
The much-awaited grand coronation night of Binibining Pilipinas 2024 is scheduled for July 7 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
A total of 40 candidates, who are referred to as the “diamond” batch of beauties, will vie for the Binibining Pilipinas International 2024 and Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2024 crowns.
Here’s what awaits the delegates for this year’s edition of the national pageant.
The Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) unveiled that two new crowns will be bestowed to Lopez and Lakrini’s successors at the coronation night.
These crowns, made by jeweler Manny Halasan, featured ethical diamonds and drew inspiration from the iconic Binibining Pilipinas logo.
The crowns’ designs incorporated three stars and a radiant sun, symbolizing the Philippines and its heritage.
The organization also revealed that the winners in its 2024 competition will each take home P1 million, the biggest cash prize in its six-decade history.
Meanwhile, the first and second runner-ups will receive P400,000 each.
The BPCI also announced that it will donate P1 million to World Vision, a child-focused humanitarian organization.
The pageant’s finals night will feature phenomenal P-pop quintet SB19–composed of Pablo, Stell, Ken, Josh, and Justin–as performers.
This would not be the first time that the kings of P-pop graced the Binibining Pilipinas stage.
In 2022, the boy group opened the national pageant’s coronation night with their rendition of Binibining Pilipinas’ theme song “Win Your Heart.” They incorporated some rap lines in the song, as the candidates sashayed down the runway. They also performed their hit songs “Bazinga” and “SLMT.”
SB19 will be joined by Original Pinoy Music (OPM) icons Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano as special performers at the coronation night.
Nievera hosted the Binibining Pilipinas Gold coronation night in 2013, along with actress Dawn Zulueta.
Four beauty queens will also serve as hosts of the 2024 coronation night, and they are none other than Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, Miss International 2016 first runner-up Nicole Cordoves, Miss Universe Philippines 2014 MJ Lastimosa, and Miss International 2016 Kylie Versoza.
Gray, Lastimosa, and Cordoves hosted the Binibining Pilipinas grand coronation night in 2023, while it would be Versoza’s first time to join as a co-host in the pageant.
Adding to the already star-studded night is reigning Miss International Andrea Rubio of Venezuela.
The Philippines currently has six Miss International crowns courtesy of Gemma Cruz in 1964, Aurora Pijuan in 1970, Melanie Marquez in 1979, Lara Quigaman in 2005, Bea Rose Santiago in 2013, and Versoza in 2016.
Meanwhile, the country has two Miss Globe crowns, one won by Ann Colis in 2015 and one by Maureen Montagne in 2021.
On Saturday, the BCPI released the official photos of the 40 Binibinis in their unique national costumes, drawing inspiration from their hometowns. The national costume competition will be held on Tuesday, June 11, at the New Frontier Theater in Cubao, Quezon City.
