‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in Concert’ to be staged in PH this June

FILM Concerts PH will bring “Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban in Concert” to the country, continuing Harry Potter’s quest to uncover the truth about his past on the concert stage.

“Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban in Concert” will be staged on June 7 and 8 at The Theatre at Solaire in Parañaque City.

Filipino musical conductor and composer Gerard Salonga will lead the 96-piece Filharmonika Orchestra and 48-piece Philippine Madrigal Singers in performing the magical score from “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” composed by Academy Awards-nominated conductor John Williams.

This, as the entire 2004 fantasy film based on J. K. Rowling’s book of the same name plays on a 40-foot screen.

“Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban in Concert” is the third installment of the “Harry Potter” film concert series created by Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences and CineConcerts.

It is the only official global concert tour that celebrates the beloved “Harry Potter” film series, garnering more than three million fans since the world premiere of the “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in Concert” in 2016.

Justin Freer, president of CineConcerts and producer/conductor of the “Harry Potter” film concert series, described the movie series as a “once-in-a-lifetime cultural phenomenon” that millions of fans across the globe have enjoyed.

“It is with great pleasure that we bring fans for the first time ever an opportunity to experience the award-winning music scores played live by a symphony orchestra, all while the beloved film is simultaneously projected onto the big screen. This is truly an unforgettable event,” Freer said in a press statement.

Concert producer Brady Beaubien of CineConcerts, meanwhile, said, “‘Harry Potter’ is synonymous with excitement around the world and we hope that by performing this incredible music with the full movie, audiences will continue to celebrate the wizarding world.”

Harry meets Sirius Black

“Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban” takes place during Harry, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley’s third year in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a boarding school of magic for young wizards.

The trio meets Sirius Black, an Azkaban prisoner who has a connection to Harry and his deceased parents, Lily and James Potter.

In their journey, the trio learned to handle a half-horse/half-eagle Hippogriff, fight off shape-shifting Boggarts, and master the art of Divination taught by Professor Sybill Trelawney. They also face Dementors, or Dark creatures that feed on human happiness.

In the film, Daniel Radcliffe portrays Harry, Emma Watson as Hermione, Rupert Grint as Ron, and Gary Oldman as Sirius Black.

“Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban” is the third installment in the “Harry Potter” movie series following “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”
