Got a lot of time? Movies and series to watch this Holy Week

DURING the Holy Week, people staying home have a lot of time on their hands to spare, and sometimes boredom is just inevitable.

Once the state of boredom settles in, people would begin scavenging for hobbies or doomscrolling social media to get themselves entertained, or binge-watching movies and series.

republicasia has compiled a list of movies and series you can watch when all you want to do is lay on the couch or the bed with snacks by your side. And since it is the Holy Week, we will stay on theme.

Conclave (2024)

According to Cardinal Lawrence, taking part in the process of choosing a new pope is one of the oldest and most secretive rituals in the world. In the Vatican’s hallways, surrounded by influential religious figures, he soon uncovers a trail of dark secrets that have the potential to upend the Roman Catholic Church itself.

The Prince of Egypt (1998)

After learning that he was descended from a Jewish slave, Egyptian Prince Moses sets out to free his people from slavery.

In this animated adaptation of the Book of Exodus. Egypt is hit by a string of terrible plagues after his brother Rameses, the new pharaoh, rejects his plea.

By splitting the Red Sea and submerging the Egyptian army, Moses ultimately leads the Israelites to freedom. The Ten Commandments, a set of guidelines for his people to follow, are then given to Moses by God.

The Chosen (2017)

Following the historical event that tells the story of Jesus through the eyes of those who knew and interacted with him in the first-century Judaea and Galilee, “The Chosen” portrays the life of Jesus and his ministry, exploring his relationship with his disciples, followers, and those who opposed him.

Samson and Delilah (1949)

If you feel like watching an old movie that’s way older than you, you might wanna check 1949’s Samson and Delilah.

In a battle of strength, Israelite hero Samson defeats Philistine woman Semadar to gain her hand in marriage. However, Samson becomes a hunted man who the Philistines, notably Semadar’s sister Delilah, wish to punish after she is killed in a battle on her wedding night. But when Samson unexpectedly gains supernatural abilities and Delilah’s genuine feelings for him emerge, everything gets complicated.
