F2 Logistics disband Cargo Movers team

F2 LOGISTICS management announced on Wednesday that they have decided to halt the Cargo Movers team after eight fruitful years of participation in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), as they refocus on “grassroots” development.

It was a sad day for fans as one of the audience’s favorite teams in the pro volleyball league has called it quits. 

“As we shift our focus to the grassroots and put to a halt the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, we thank our ever-loyal supporters that have been with the team through the victories and the losses,” said the team in a statement.

The management team thanked their supporters and the ties they’ve formed over the years of competing in various pro leagues across the country.

“The F2 Logistics Cargo Movers Volleyball Team has been more than just a sports team; it has been a source of inspiration and pride for us and, we hope, for all of you. We deeply value the relationships built and memories shared with our fans, sponsors, and the entire volleyball community.”

F2 Logistics Cargo Movers has won six championships, four silver medals, and three bronze medals over the years. The Cargo Movers have demonstrated their support for the Philippine national team by enabling some of their important players to compete in international games.

They even represented the Philippines in the 2016 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship, which was hosted right here in the Philippines, competing against internationally famous powerhouse teams and players. 

The management said it would prioritize the health of their players as several injuries plagued their club in past seasons. “However, time has not been good to us. A number of injuries to our players forced us to take slower steps, prioritizing health over victories in the past few years,” they said.

Players bid farewell

The Cargo Movers were created in 2016 by a group of former and current De La Salle University Lady Spikers. F2 dominated the Philippine Superliga (PSL) during their tenure there, capturing five championships before the league folded in 2021.

The Cargo Movers were the last PSL team to join the PVL, debuting in 2022. F2 Logistics, on the other hand, did not have the same success in the pros, with a bronze as their best finish at the 2023 First All-Filipino Conference.

Several members of the aforementioned team, including team leader Aby Maraño, Dawn Macandili, Kim Fajardo and Kianna Dy, wrote their farewells on Instagram. The athletes expressed their appreciation and heartbreak as they closed a chapter that they had not anticipated.

Even though a storied chapter was coming to an end, F2 Logistics’ management committed to continue their steadfast support for the country’s volleyball community. They intend to support grassroots development to leverage the level of play of emerging players.

“While this chapter may be closing, we remain committed to supporting the growth of Philippine volleyball through supporting the sport at the grassroots level,” said their board of directors.

“F2 Logistics continues to support the De La Salle University Lady Spikers. We will also expand our support to the University of Perpetual Help volleyball team and to other parts of the country, helping the growth of volleyball in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao,” it added.

“The bond we have forged in the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers is one that has stood the test of time and we will continue to be a family long after this team is gone. We thank you for standing by us and being part of our journey.”
