Over the years, we have seen a gradual increase in women working in male-dominated fields. However, according to the CAPA Centre for Aviation, women make up only about 6% of pilots worldwide.
But Philippine Airlines (PAL) has been empowering women for decades and made history by introducing the Philippines and Southeast Asia’s very first female commercial airline pilot, Captain Aimee Carandang-Gloria. She broke barriers once again by becoming the first female commercial airline captain not only in the Philippines but also in the whole of Southeast Asia.
And this year, PAL is taking this legacy even further.
From a dream to the limitless sky
In honor of International Women’s Day, PAL released a heartwarming film about a young girl who discovers her love for airplanes and finds the courage to chase her dreams. It features a real Filipina pilot from Philippine Airlines. The film hits differently with a reimagined version of Alapaap by Eraserheads, but sung by a female singer— because what’s more iconic than a Filipina owning their freedom and soaring high, right? It showcases that dreams are not just aspirations but achievable realities.
But Philippine Airlines isn’t stopping at inspiration. They’re putting action behind their words.
In partnership with Philippine Airlines Foundation (PAL Foundation), they launched the Fly With Her Program, pledging 10 million pesos to support aspiring Filipina pilots. The Fly With Her Program highlights PAL’s dedication to diversity and equality, providing the next generation of Filipina aviators with the support they need to soar.
So, to every young Filipina who has ever dreamed of flying: the sky is yours to conquer.
