THE queens of the third season of “Drag Race Philippines” raised the country’s flag in the official Southeast Asia dance video of “HOT TO GO!” by American singer-songwriter Chappell Roan.
The Gen Z pop star brought the “HOT TO GO!” dance craze to Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and of course, the Philippines.
Released on November 5, the three-minute and 41-second clip showed Filipina drag queens Yudipota, Khianna, John Fedellaga, Myx Channel, Versex, and Zymba Ding dancing and lip-syncing to the pop track.
The catchy and easiest part of the choreography is spelling out the song’s title with their arms as Chappell sings the chorus: “H-O-T-T-O-G-O; You can take me hot to go; H-O-T-T-O-G-O; You can take me hot to go.”
Several scenes showing the “Drag Race Philippines” season 3 queens were from the official Philippine music video of “HOT TO GO!” released via UMG Philippines’ YouTube account in October.
The latest dance clip also featured more personalities, including drag performers and a cheerleading squad, from other Southeast Asian countries.
Meanwhile, the Filipina drag queens shared snaps of their scenes from the clip on their Instagram stories.
“Love it guys!!” said John.
The Filipina drag queens were among the 11 contestants who participated in the third season of the reality competition series “Drag Race Philippines,” hosted by Paolo Ballesteros a.k.a Mama Pao. The latest season declared Maxie as its newest drag superstar.
Several netizens were elated seeing the Filipina drag queens with other foreign drag queens, giving more representation to the queer community in the media.
“My queer Southeast Asian heart feels so unbelievably happy and seen!” one netizen commented.
“This is making me so emotional. The LGBTQ community of those countries deserve [so much] representation,” another internet user said.
Other Filipino netizens also hoped Chappell would hold a concert tour soon, with the Philippines as one of the stops.
“HOT TO GO!”also described as a queer cheer song, was part of Chappell’s debut studio album, “The Rise and Fall of Midwest Princess,” released in 2023. The 26-year-old singer-songwriter said she dedicated the song to her high school self who dreamt of becoming a cheerleader.
“I wanted a cheerleading song. I wanted something that I could do with the audience. Like, I was really jealous of the ‘YMCA,’ Chappell previously told NME, pertaining to Village People’s classic song.
“Fun fact, it’s actually a real cheer, but I made up my own cheer with that,” she added.
“HOT TO GO!” was nominated as Best Trending Video at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.
