Deserve ko ‘to: smart ways to reward yourself

HOW often do you reward yourself? Do you truly put a lot of effort into what you do to treat yourself? Or do you like to celebrate your small wins?

According to Paul Haggen, author of “Unlocking Success: The Power of Rewarding Yourself,” rewarding yourself keeps you focused, decreases procrastination, restores willpower, and helps you build habits.

Everyone knows that after a long day, you enjoy rewarding yourself but does it mean spending all your money?

Here are some ways to reward yourself without breaking the bank:

Eating good food

Eat good food, not unhealthy food. It’s not a smart option to eat unhealthy food to indulge after you work on something. Instead of ordering takeout, why not prepare a nutritious dinner or just eat some fruit?

Remember, food is not always the only option to treat yourself. Some people turn to what they refer to as “stress eating” as a coping mechanism. Eat something that will boost your energy and senses.

Power nap

Who else loves to take a power nap on a tiring day? Power naps are also beneficial for your health. Jeff Khan, writer of “Best Way to Power Nap: Length, Timing, Perks, and Expert Tips” (reviewed by Dr. Chester Wu, a sleep medicine physician), power naps provide a quick energy and mood boost, increase alertness, and improve cognitive performance.

Spend time with someone you love

Catching up with someone you love is another way to take a break and reward yourself. It’s all about the small talk, life lessons learned, and what you are grateful for in life. Having someone to accompany you is already a reward. They can make you laugh, help you in difficult situations, and make you feel relaxed.

It is indeed normal to take a break and disconnect to reconnect. Rewarding yourself is not about splurging your money on items and luxurious things. It can be quality time with yourself or your loved ones.

Remember, what is essential is invisible to the eyes.

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

— John Greenleaf, Whittier, Don’t Quit, 1807
