Creamline repeats on Choco Mucho, claims All-Filipino title

THE Creamline Cool Smashers won their seventh Premier Volleyball League (PVL) title after finishing their 2024 All-Filipino Conference campaign with a five-set victory over the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.

On Mother’s Day, the reigning champions swept their Finals match against their sister team at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, winning 20-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, and 15-11.

Despite having a difficult season, losing key players such as Jia de Guzman and Ced Domingo, and finishing the elimination round as the fourth team in the semis, the Cool Smashers were able to turn things around.

To demonstrate their team’s pedigree, the Cool Smashers used their championship experience against the Flying Titans, who had only made it to the finals last year.

Creamline head coach Sherwin Menses is pleased to see that all of his players played with a single goal. He stated that the Cool Smashers provided 110 percent not only during games but also during training.

Leading the four-time victors was Finals MVP Jema Galanza, who ended with 20 points, all from attacks. Despite her outstanding performance, the veteran spiker gives full credit to her colleagues.

“Yung laro kasi, nilaro namin. Hindi lang isa yung naglalaro or isa lang yung gumagawa, team kami nag laro kaya nakuha namin tong game na ‘to,” the Finals MVP said during the postgame interview.

“Alam naman namin na hindi madali, na hindi nila ibibgay agad-agad samin ‘to kaya umabot talaga ng five sets. Alam naman natin kung gaano rin talaga lumalaban yung Choco Mucho so kami, naniwala lang din kami sa isa’t isa. Gusto lang talaga namin makuha itong game na to.”

Bernadeth Pons, Tots Carlos, and Pangs Panaga supported her with 17 points, 16 points, and 13, respectively. Kyle Negrito was also important, as she threw 23 of Creamline’s 26 outstanding receptions.

Meanwhile, despite their defeat, the Flying Titans made an impressive stand against the Cool Smashers. Sis Rondina scored a massive 31 points, but lost the finals match.

Royse Tubino added 20 points, Cherry Nunag added 14, and Isa Molde and Maddie Madayag each added 10 points to highlight the Flying Titans’ balanced offensive attack.

Despite a tough start and a poor semi-final performance, Creamline proved to be the better team once more, dominating the league as if they have no intention of relinquishing their dominance for years to come.
